Wool and Felt Craft
Working with wool and felt, and making felt itself, are becoming increasingly popular crafts.
Lovely patterns abound for felt and wool applique, and felting itself is trendy and simple, whether you are creating cool accessories such as bags or slippers, or decor for the home.
There are two techniques in felting; the wet technique (for example using high-wool content yarn to knit and then hot-wash) and the dry technique that only requires the use of a special felting needle. Whatever your preference, felting is a hugely enjoyable and easy craft!
Wet felting is easy with Anchor Wash+Filz-It 100% merino wool. The accompanying projects in the Intermezzo leaflets have simple instructions to make the item, which you then just shove in the washing machine to felt! Of course the range of fibres and patterns is much wider - you can use any yarn with a high content of wool, alpaca or llama to create felt, and just about any pattern to make accessories and garments.
Dry (needle) felting - with needle felting, you can apply a design to wool or felt using unspun wool (roving) and a felting needle. Simply use a poking motion with the needle to interlock the fibres. This easy craft is growing in popularity as it's great fun for both adults and children and you can make anything from fun and funky little creatures to beautiful felt-appliqued handbags and cushions.
